Communities Health Africa Trust

Communities Health Africa Trust (CHAT) is an organization focused on bringing healthcare and family planning to remote, rural communities in Kenya, where there is little to no clinic access.
Utilizing all-terrain vehicles and a nomadic, backpack-wearing team approach to healthcare, CHAT has devised a door-to-door strategy to accessing and supporting the most hard-to-reach and deeply challenged communities.

At the heart of their work is a deep respect for the people they serve—listening first, partnering locally, and building solutions rooted in community knowledge and long-term resilience.

The Film

“
Our team was fortunate to spend a day and night shooting with Rose and her extraordinary CHAT team, witnessing their arrival in a challenging, deeply remote part of Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, where they immediately set up their tents and got to work.

It was the tender and intimate way in which Rose and the other nurses and physicians on the CHAT team engaged with each patient—as if they were members of their own family—that struck us so deeply.

Capturing this compassionate team of health workers from sunup until sundown—then pack up and head off to another location to help yet another community in dire need—will stick with us forever.

“
Many people would ask me, “Why are you in this remote setting, in this very poor way of life, when you have all the qualifications to be in a big organization?”

I said, if I don’t do it, who will? It becomes part of our routine. It becomes a part of us.
