Kutenga is working to fill this gap by partnering with women and men, often living with HIV/AIDS, across 32 neighbourhoods in Maputo.
Through its Recycling Initiatives, Kutenga turns waste into income-generating opportunities. Used cooking oil is converted into soap and sold at local markets, giving members a way to earn an income while building entrepreneurial skills.
Community Savings Programmes enable members to pool their resources, access to low-interest microloans and invest in small businesses.
Kutenga’s vision is to transform entire communities. Where poverty and unemployment no longer define what is possible. Where people have the opportunity, resources and confidence to support their families, build livelihoods and achieve greater financial security.

The Film
We met Santos while filming Kutenga’s community waste collection programme, where he spends his days moving through the neighbourhood collecting household waste alongside the team of dedicated workers.
Beyond his work with Kutenga, Santos collects used cooking oil from homes and street vendors, transforming it into soap that he sells at the local markets.
I joined Kutenga to take care of myself and see what I could learn.Â
The organisation I’m building is really about becoming an entrepreneur.
Keep The Work Going
